When Maurice was 16 years old, he bought “Thurgood Marshall: American Revolutionary” at the bookstore in the National Civil Rights Museum. After reading about Justice Marshall and his heroic legal career at the NAACP Legal Defense Fund, as Solicitor General, and Supreme Court justice, Maurice knew that he wanted to be a lawyer and dedicate his career to helping people.

Maurice had his first opportunity to do this working as public defender in south central Missouri. He represented low income individuals charged with crimes in Howell and Shannon counties, Missouri. That experience taught Maurice the importance of listening to his clients, thoroughly reviewing discovering, and zealously advocating on behalf clients. In 2020, Maurice entered private practice to reignite that passion he felt fighting for individuals charged by the State.
